Nanoparticles, a New Frontier in Dentistry

These nanoparticles are so small that the microscopic sized dust mite is much larger. Periodontitis is a complex oral disease that is difficult to combat and almost impossible to completely remove it from the mouth. The nanoparticles combined with special slow releasing medicines could reverse this disease process and even regenerate new bone without a surgical procedure. It could be added to an implant site to speed and strengthen the bone growth around the implant.

Tremendous research is occurring and hopefully, within a 10 year period, these wonder drugs with be commercially available.

There are also NANODIAMONDS which appear to be our best answer to making disease destroying drugs.

They are using a drug delivery system that utilizes diamond dust waste material from commercial mining operations. The diamond particles are coated with drugs and can stay in the body for a very long time to treat the diseased area. It is being researched in a variety of oral diseases as well as oral cancer treatments.

The nanodiamonds can provide hours and even days of a slow release of the bound medication to fight these difficult to cure diseases

All of these NANOPARTICLES will help to unravel the complexities of diseases and will ultimately generate important breakthroughs in our future.
